Geography is an important subject for students because it enables them to develop skills and acquire knowledge. Both skills and knowledge can be used in other subject areas and are not limited to geography or social science. Students develop critical thinking skills that encourage them to think about geography at a deeper level and ask the important questions. In addition, they develop the necessary inquiry/research skills to find the answers. Acquired knowledge from the study of geography empowers students with a sense of identity and orientation. This knowledge helps them to understand where they come from and the world that they live in today.
